Out on the water we came to understand and appreciate the origin of the word ultramarine. Never before had we experienced such an extraordinarily rich blueness, which transitioned into even more extraordinary gradients of turquoises and pale blues. These waters were breaking on verticle shores of ragged cliffs in all hues of ochre, peppered with verdant dashes. It was even more beautiful than the local folk had described.
